Ex-combatant of the United Self-Defence Forces of Colombia -AUC-. Joined at the age of 16, remained in the group for 5 years.
I am going to speak about five fellows.
I begin by speaking about “El Ferrari”: The commander slit his throat and then put blood on the faces of the new recruits, so they would smell it and overcame the fear of death… and so they would see how things had to be carried out or they would be punished in the same manner.
“El Recluta”: He was sent to kill somebody in a village, then he arrived and said, “Commander, I couldn’t do it.” So the commander decides to kill him, throws him into that hole and burns him. He was alive…
Here is Gonzalo: He stole some hens from a peasant on a day off and the peasant goes and tells the commander. He was brought back to the house where the hens were stolen and was killed right there with a machete and an axe.
This is “El Pajaro”: A commander in training told him to become serious and he replied, “go and shout at your fucking mother.” The commander killed him with a wooden stick; he hit him repeatedly until the head was smashed and he fell.
And here is “Pinocho”: He raped a peasant girl. The commander tied him to that tree and started torturing him. He was naked.
There were caimans, crocodile-style animals around. Before throwing him into the river, he cut one of his feet. He left him bleeding and dying until he disappeared, or decomposed, or the water took him, or until the animal ate him…
