Where nature comes together, life comes apart

I chose the title ‘Where nature comes together, life drifts away’. Why? Because this is where two rivers meet, the Armas river flowing from Antioquia and the Aures from Caldas. This is a region in Eastern Antioquia.

What we see is this fellow carrying a bag of money, extortion money. They were blackmailing some landowners, merchants from Abejorral, Antioquia

We followed him. I was sent ahead to the point where I knew he would be crossing…

He was carrying one-hundred million pesos in the bag, and had on him a 7-65 pistol, and a radio.

At the time I must have been eighteen or so. This guy was very young, sixteen at the most.

I will never forget these three footprints. The boy’s heavy footprints marking the place where he fell. His last three steps.
