Ex-combatant of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia -FARC-EP-. Joined at the age of 28, remained there for 12 years.
The march was coming by the river. This took place in Caguán, in the port of Cartagena del Chairá. It happened when the government started the ¨Plan Colombia¨ which was going to eliminate the coca plantations. So, the fumigation with glyphosate was a government order.
This was a march organized by the guerrilla to protest against the fumigation. Not only civilians were marching, among them there were guerrilla members in plain clothes, because they came to support the march.
It turns out that law enforcement officers arrived. They came to stop the march there. Soldiers came out and attacked them with tear gas and gunshots. People were killed there, including three children, in the streets, killed by the smoke from the gas. People knelt down, screamed, ran from one side to the other, cried … Bombs were also thrown at them. And people got scared and the canoes were turned over. They drowned, some disappeared.
There was a canoe jam; so many canoes that they looked like fish. A lot of people died in that march because it lasted more than a month.
I always show the civilians. The civilian population is always forced to do what others ask them to do. Those who have weapons are in charge.
