synopsis quote left

One day they sent us with other fellow combatants to run an errand. We went to a town called Puerto Tobón. When we got there, friends invited me to have a few beers, and I got drunk that time. I took my gun out, and they say I fired a few shots and a civilian got injured. One can’t drink unless you have permission… otherwise it’s a crime.

They picked me up. They dragged me to a court martial. They strapped me completely. They gathered everyone, in other words, all my comrades and they voted. If the ‘yes’ votes are the majority, you are shot; if the ‘no’ votes win your life is spared. I was already thinking of dying because that is how it was over there.

When all of a sudden, the army attacked us.

A very close girlfriend, my best friend, helped me. She untied me and told me to escape. That was when I came to Florencia. In other words, God was the one that saved me… with the army attacking us anything could have happened… a true miracle.
