synopsis quote left

I will never forget that face when she looked into my eyes and begged me not to kill her.

My father was killed by a paramilitary group (AUC). He was a drug dealer and was sentenced to death. When my father was murdered I was twelve years old. That happened in 1994.

In 1992, the AUC also executed one of my brothers who was also a drug dealer.

I joined the AUC because there is an expression that says: “If you can’t beat them, join them.”

Everyone who is in the war is fighting with death; it is a game, a maze in which one is locked up with death trying to dodge it in every possible way.

Every time we woke up and watched the sunrise, all we could do was to thank God for the opportunity he gave us to see a new day, because one more day was one day less that many of my colleagues had to live.
